Our Guests

Our new guest - poet, writer and artist Lada Dozhd from Togliatti, Russia, doesn't need a special introduction. Her own poems and artworks serve as the best description of her great and unusual talent as well as her extraordinary personality.

Lada's poems are like an abstract painting. Any one of her beautiful lines can leave you contemplating its meaning for the rest of the day and remembering it for the rest of your life. Loving Lada's poetry and knowing that it is almost impossible to translate it, I have asked her permission to do a variations on some of her lines and poems.

I cry poems,
like the sky cries stars

Lada Dozhd

I've always felt keen guilt for my talent.
I learned to read the stars as remedy
To help me share my gift
Which, each day grows and weighs me down
Impossible and hard.
To no effect,
I'm cursed -
Others need to share their absurdity
With equal, painful intensity.

I followed her movements dashing
From afar,
Like Rafael his brush.
I marveled at the lilies of her knees
And silky skin,
Rejoiced the threads of sun
That sweetly trembled on her lashes,
And sparkled in her eyes,
Like wild fire-flies.
But all in vain.
The lizard in the shifting sands -
My hope - had slipped away.

Again through opened windows
At night
Fly dreams more lucid
Than your kisses.
